Summer Season Announcement

We are excited to announce that we will be running our first ever Summer League this year! Organized youth baseball is permissible under Pennsylvania’s Green Reopening Phase and field permits have been issued by the City of Pittsburgh. We will be following the COVID-19 guidance of the CDCState of PennsylvaniaAllegheny County, and the City of Pittsburgh. We will also be looking to a number of other sources, including Little League and UPMC, for potential additional ideas. Families should review all of this information closely. We will ask for assistance from our coaches, and parents will play an active and central role to help implement these guidelines. We will continue to monitor all applicable government guidelines and make any adjustments accordingly.

Please note, this league will run during the active COVID-19 pandemic and there are currently cases and infected individuals in Allegheny County, and very likely in the neighborhoods where our players live (in fact, the Squirrel Hill South/Regent Square neighborhoods have some of the higher COVID-19 cases in the City). The virus that causes the Coronavirus 2019 Disease (“COVID-19”) is easily transmitted, especially in group settings, and it is essential that the spread of the virus be slowed to safeguard public health and safety. COVID-19 can be transmitted from infected individuals even if they are asymptomatic or their symptoms are mild, such as a cough. It can also be spread by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching your mouth, nose, or eyes. While we will be following health guidelines, there is still a very real and significant health risk – including death. Needless to say, a Waiver will need to be signed by both parents and all legal guardians before a child can begin play.

The league will run from early July until mid-August.

Due to the many very kind and generous Spring Season registration donations, we are basically able to offer this summer league “at cost”. THANK YOU!!! Given the very real possibility that the season could be cut short at any moment due to any number of COVID-19 scenarios, we are also doing our best to minimize costs (so, for example, expect much simpler jerseys and parent umpires at the younger ages).

Due to our anticipated lower registration numbers during the pandemic and the opportunity to share/reduce costs, we will be collaborating with the Squirrel Hill baseball league for the summer season. Most games for our older children will be at Blue Slide Park, while we are anticipating our younger players will most likely be at the Frick Park fields on the corner of Braddock and Forbes Avenues.

Each child will need to bring their own hydration, as water fountains will not be turned on. In addition, each child needs hand sanitizer. Players will need to provide all of their own equipment for the Summer League (bat, glove, and helmet). Please contact us if that is going to be a financial burden.

While we are excited to provide the opportunity to play baseball this summer to all of our families, we would encourage you to strongly consider the health and safety risks to you and your family, and that you make the choice that best fits your situation and risk tolerance. Please refer to our league’s COVID-19 Safety Plan for additional information. We are expecting to run a Fall league if conditions permit.

Please consider the above information carefully, but we do need to know ASAP if your child intends to play.
The registration deadline is:  Wednesday, June 17.
