14th Ward Wins 3 Mayor's Cup Championships at PNC Park!

On August 9, 2024 at PNC Park, the Pittsburgh Pirates hosted the final RBI & Pittsburgh Citisports Mayor’s Cup Championship Games of the Spring 2024 season. Games featured teams at the Pony AA (14U), Colt (16U) and Super Colt (18U) levels. 14th Ward had a team competing in every one of the championship games and for the first time ever (we think), emerged with a clean sweep! Details below:

Pony AA (14U):

The 14th Ward Pony AA Team played Greenfield for the City League Mayor’s Cup Championship and came away with a 13-3 victory. The boys scored 4 runs in the top of the 1st inning and never looked back. These kids have been playing 14th Ward Baseball together since T-Ball. It’s been a long (and very fun) road from Frick Park to PNC Park!

Colt (16U):

14th Ward’s Colt team faced off against 9th Ward. Five pitchers (Carmine Cravotta, Bobby Siegel, Brayden Lindsey, David Dillon & Steven Okonkwo) combined to give up only 6 hits over 7 innings. Offense was supplied by doubles from Dillon Cooper and Cooper Ravenstahl combined with 3 RBI from Charlie Wanless as 14th Ward came away with a 6-3 victory.

Super Colt (18U):

Lucas DeRose was dominant, throwing a 2-hit shutout, striking out 8 as 14th Ward won 3-0 over Squirrel Hill in the RBI Coty League Super Colt Championship game at PNC Park. Lukas Stead was 3-3 nearly hitting for the cycle (single, couple, triple). The game was tied 0-0 in the bottom of the 6th when Stead tripled to drive in Satyan Chickering who started the inning with a single. Kris Bandurski drove in Stead with a squeeze play bunt. Josh Valinsky scored later in the inning on another squeeze play bunt from DeRose to make it 3-0. That was more than enough for DeRose who put Squirrel Hill away with a clean 7th inning.
